POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION

Dosage and duration of treatment depend on the degree of iron deficiency.

Daily dosing of Referum® syrup is presented in the following tables:

Method of administration

The daily dose should be taken at once or into separate doses.

Referum® syrup might be mixed with fruit/vegetable juice or can be added to infant’s food. The syrup should be taken during or immediately after a meal. Mild discoloration of juice or food does not affect their taste nor the effectiveness of the medicine.

The enclosed measuring spoon is used for precise determination of the dose of
Referum® syrup.

COMPOSITION

Syrup 50 mg/5 ml
Composition:
Each spoon (5 ml) syrup contains 50 mg Fe (III) as ferric hydroxide polymaltose complex, excipients.
Syrup 100 mg/5 ml
Composition:
Each spoon (5 ml) syrup contains 100 mg Fe (III) as ferric hydroxide polymaltose complex, excipients.

THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS

Referum® syrup is indicated in children and adults for:

  • Treatment of latent iron deficiency.
  • Treatment of anemia, due to iron deficiency (manifest iron deficiency).
  • Prevention of iron deficiency in pregnancy.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Referum® syrup is contraindicated at patients with:

  • hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients of the medicine,
  • excessive quantity of iron in the organism (hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis) or disturbance in the utilization of iron (anemia caused from lead poisoning and sideroachrestic anemia, thalassemia),
  • anemia which is not due to iron deficiency (eg hemolytic anemia).
